What is the I Ching?

The I Ching (or Yijing) is a millenary Chinese book of wisdom and philosophical text centered around 64 hexagrammes. Composed of solid (yang) and broken (yin) lines, these hexagrams form a unique symbolic language that captures the core dynamics of any given situation.

Each hexagram maps out the potential evolution of your query. Acting as an inner compass, it provides subtle guidance to help you navigate ongoing transformations. Whether approached as a spiritual guide or a tool for self-reflection, the I Ching invites you to bring forward a meaningful question and uncover the unseen currents shaping your experience.

I Ching or Yijing?

I Ching and Yijing refer to the exact same classic text.

Both terms designate the same sacred book, also famously known as the Book of Changes.

How Does an Online I Ching Reading Work?

1. Focus on an Open-Ended Question

Take a quiet moment to center your intention. The I Ching is a tool for guidance and self-reflection, not rigid fortune-telling. Therefore, it is best to ask an open-ended question rather than a closed one (which only asks for a simple yes or no).

By starting your question with “How…”, “What is the nature of…”, or “What attitude should I adopt regarding…”, you allow the oracle and the AI to provide a rich, nuanced analysis with genuine paths for personal growth.

2. Cast the Coins Digitally

The app faithfully reproduces the traditional three-coin divination method (san qian fa). Each line of the hexagram is generated by a virtual toss:

By adding up the points from the three coins, the nature of the line is determined and built from the bottom up:

The Role of Changing Lines: These lines represent a shifting energy. As they transform—yin turning into yang, and vice versa—they give rise to a second hexagram (the transformed or relating hexagram), which reveals the likely evolution of your situation.

3. Interpret the Result with AI

Unlock a tailored reading using the artificial intelligence of your choice: ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or Mistral. This unique alliance between ancient tradition and modern technology provides a rich, fluid, and deeply personalized interpretation of your reading.
